Many of the incredible custom motorcycles we feature on these pages were years in the making, dreamt up in youth, and often decades before they finally rolled out of a shed ready for the road. And then there’s Eak from K-Speed, the Bangkok king of murdered-out machines, a man who seems to channel bike ideas the same way thunderstorms roll in over the tropics: suddenly, violently, and without warning. He's Picasso-like in his prolific nature, and his latest creation, the 'Shadow Racer', takes Triumph’s classic 2008 Thruxton and distils it into something leaner, darker, and far more dangerous than Hinckley ever dared.

If you’ve followed K-Speed for any length of time, you’ll know the rhythm: bikes arrive, ideas explode, and within days another black-clad custom is rolling out the door with that unmistakable Tanadit Sarawek 'Eak' DNA. Last year alone, he built forty different machines, a pace that would vaporise most ordinary humans. The team jokes that even Eak himself can’t explain why one model suddenly grabs him by the collar and demands reinvention. He simply knows, instinctively, that the picture in his head will morph into something beautiful.

There’s a quiet kind of cool that comes from 46Works, the kind born not in a marketing department, but in the hands of a master. Shiro Nakajima, the man behind the banner, doesn’t chase hype; he builds it, one meticulously crafted project at a time. From his wooden workshop nestled in the foothills of the Yatsugatake Mountains, Nakajima-san has once again joined forces with BMW Motorrad Sagamihara for a follow-up to their 2024 R12 nineT Complete Custom. And for 2026, the bar has somehow been raised. Only nine of these stunning machines will ever exist, a limited-run production style custom from one of the best in the game.

This latest creation, dubbed the 2026 Model R12 nineT 46Works Complete Custom #02, follows the spirit of its predecessor but with a sharper focus on form and flow. The 2024 model sold out instantly, just six units were built, proving there’s a global appetite for Nakajima’s restrained yet soul-stirring design philosophy. Now, the second run brings a fresh take, balancing BMW’s modern retro underpinnings with that unmistakable 46Works DNA.

In the small Swiss town of Schmerikon, there’s a team of mad scientists working under the banner of VTR Customs. Daniel, Stefano, and Marcel, backed by the larger VTR Motorrad BMW dealership, have built a reputation for turning stout Bavarian machines into something far more sinister, often with a hard, industrial, metal edge. Their latest? A 2024 BMW R12 that's been thoroughly transformed into an '80s endurance-inspired race machine, jammed packed with a big nitrous shot to lay down 160 horsepower. If it sounds excessive, that’s the whole damn point; the VTR team are simply not interested in taking a half swing.

Most custom shops that operate as part of a large dealership tend to be all about bolt-ons and providing simple upgrades to those who have just purchased a new motorcycle next door. VTR Customs is absolutely not about that kind of bike. Despite the restrictive nature of Switzerland's road regulations, they've never turned out a bike that isn't absolutely wild and purely one-off in nature. Their race bike, 'Spitfire', put them on the map, and using Daniel's past experience rebuilding vintage fighter aircraft, they created an alloy-clad, flame-thrower that let the world know exactly what they're all about.

The Harley-Davidson Sportster has been a shape-shifter ever since it rolled out in 1957. Over the decades, it’s been chopped, bobbed, stripped down, and dressed up, and been seen riding the wave of whatever custom trend was cresting at the time. But every so often, a builder comes along who doesn’t just rehash the past; they push the Sportster into uncharted territory. That builder is the world-renowned Belarusian Yuri Shif of Shif Customs. And the machine is 'Ginzster', a razor-edged café racer born from the famed XR1200, designed to capture the essence of decades of Sporties, all in one bike.

For his part, Shif is one of the most highly regarded custom builders on the planet. In the years of the AMD World Championships of Custom Bike Building, very few racked up as many judging points as the man who likes to work alone. From his workshop in Minsk, he's carved out a reputation for being able to do it all, but what the judges love is his sheer creativity and attention to detail. We've featured a number of his masterpieces over the years, and while he's done incredible things with every brand of bike, like his supercharged twin-engined BMW, his best work often comes when it's based on something from the HD brand. 

When Royal Enfield dropped their modern twin, everyone figured it’d sell well, but no one saw this coming. The thing’s become a full-blown movement. Sales are through the roof, race grids are filling up with nothing but Enfields, and the number of customs out there is enough to make your head spin. So when Royal Enfield Brazil decided to run a BTR Dealer Build-Off for 2025, they tapped seven shops to throw down. And this, folks, is the bike that came out on top. Dreamed up by the Sekai Group, the crew behind Enfield dealerships across southern Brazil, and brought to life by the metal magicians at RMC Garage, it’s a lean, green, track-shredding machine that looks every bit as good as it goes.

For nearly a decade, RMC Garage, also known as Real Motorcycles, have been building incredible classic styled customs out of their small garage in Florianópolis. And with the Sekai Group having a host of dealerships, including one not too far from the shop, the build-off was the perfect excuse for the two businesses to team up. Along with their fellow contestants, they'd all follow the Royal Enfield ethos of Build.Train.Race, a program that started in North America to teach women how to create and ride their own track bikes, and has since morphed into a one-make race series, run under the mighty Moto America banner.

You don’t need to squint to see what’s going on here. The workshop behind this build is known for crafting machines that are designed to terrorise polite society. Commissioned by a nearby Ducati dealership, the recipe was straightforward: take one fun-loving Italian Scrambler, hand it over to a bunch of Bavarian metal magicians, and the result is a street brawler with café racer swagger and a rear end wider than a powerlifter’s squat stance. RF-Biketech’s Ducati Scrambler isn’t about subtle tweaks or polite nods to tradition; it’s about attitude, engineering, and a fat slice of German precision served with an extra helping of rubber.  

The donor is a 2017 Ducati Scrambler Icon, handed over by the good folks at Motorland Mannheim, who wanted to show their customer base just how crazy you can get with the mild, no-fuss fun machine that is the factory Scrambler. And instantly, Frank and the crew at RF-Biketech saw in its trellis frame the perfect foundation for something a little more menacing. Instead of chasing horsepower figures or reinventing Bologna’s twin-cylinder heart, the team chose to focus on what they know best: radical chassis work, bold design, and that signature Bavarian engineering precision.

When a motorcycle leaves the WalzWerk workshop in Hockenheim, it’s not just another build; it’s a statement of intent. Marcus Walz, one of Europe’s most respected custom builders, has a habit of turning even the most accomplished factory machines into something leaner, sharper, and unmistakably his own. His latest work, a production-series BMW R12 Cafe Racer, is no exception. Based on the already impressive R12 nineT, this machine takes everything BMW got right and infuses it with the signature WalzWerk formula: Great looks, brilliant performance, and an attention to detail that is simply second to none.

The WalzWerk factory is a busy place to be, with endless classic Rs running out the door in the company's SCHIZZO® range, along with a host of customs based on the R18, R nineT, K100 and even some non-BMWs thrown into the mix. But with the release of the R12, Walz became one of the world's first builders to transform the new model, with his incredible Scrambler that we featured last year. That Scrambler is also available in a limited run of bikes each year, and this, the Cafe Racer version, was the obvious next step. Already designed are Bobber and SuperBike versions to come, but for now, it's all about giving the R12 some cafe cool.

The greatest motorcycles of all time hold such a sway over us that even their simple silhouette makes them instantly recognisable. Major manufacturers leverage this imagery to form a strong connection with their brand, making it so iconic that it can be transferred onto a t-shirt and sold by the millions. And yet, despite the fact that there is nothing factory, let alone mainstream, about the machine before you, it retains that unique feature of looking like a legend, simply standing still. Built by Cédric Camiade, this Norley is more than a transatlantic amalgamation of two icons of the automotive world. It's one man's vision, dreamed up in a jewellery store in Sri Lanka, brought to life by a French artisan, and eliciting a timeless appeal, it is The Onyx.

Cédric has been around motorcycles his entire life, introduced to the wild world of two-wheels by his father, the addiction has never abated. As a young lad in France, he was tinkering with bikes as soon as he was old enough to spin a spanner, and he raced 50cc machines too. Then, for more than seven years, he ran a restoration and customisation business, until eventually he decided he'd simply build bikes for his own personal pleasure. But when motorcycles have you on the hook, you're done for, so even when visiting the beautiful fort city of Galle, Sri Lanka, he was looking at what machines were for sale back home. 

It starts as just a couple of friends sharing their love of bikes over a beer or two, next they're discussing the kind of motorcycle that might make for a good project, maybe go halves and save some cash. Then, before you know it, they've opened a garage, created a brand and built a few bikes. That's the short and simple version of how two motorbike-mad mates from Lithuania started their own custom bike company, B Custom Cycle. Lukas and Marius might work by day in finance and production planning, but all their spare time is spent in a garage they acquired back in 2022, in their nation's capital, Vilnius. Both will tell you that bike building is still their hobby, but this cafe'd BMW R80 RT proves they have a bright future ahead, should they choose to go full-time.

One of the things we love about meeting builders from all corners of the globe is learning about the unique challenges they have to overcome to bring their dreams into reality. Lithuania has a very strong motorcycle culture, but parts for a cafe racer style build are not available through overnight delivery, as they are in many other parts of the world. The upside is that those who can't simply order parts to bolt-on, don't end up with a cookie-cutter end product. And then there is another challenge for Lukas and Marius, given they both work full time in demanding jobs, time just isn't on their side, so this build took them five years.

Ten years ago, if we'd told you that India and Royal Enfield would become the powerhouses of both the motorcycle industry and the custom bike scene, you wouldn't have believed us. Heck, we wouldn't have believed ourselves, but there is just no denying the incredible rise of the Asian nation and the two-wheeled company that has been synonymous with motorcycling there for generations. However, even the biggest brands rely on unique and successful partnerships to achieve remarkable things, and few relationships have borne so much tasty fruit as RE and Rajputana Customs. For their part, Enfield delivered a brand-new Shotgun 650 to the Jaipur-based bike builders, and Vijay Singh and his team have gone custom crazy, crafting a truly handbuilt bike, they call JetStream.

Credit where it's due, Royal Enfield and their 'Custom World' program have been supporting bike builders around the globe for quite a few years now, and their approach is paying off big time. Part of their philosophy is to truly give creative freedom to builders, no requests to use the company colours or not hack up too much of the frame or change the silhouette. In fact, their vision for Vinjay Singh and the team at Rajputana was to simply “create something truly different.”And boy, have they, the finished product is out of this world and showcases just what a perfect engine the RE parallel twin is for going crazy on a full-on, one-off build.
